Corporate social responsibility involves supporting the communities in which businesses operate. Our vision is for the law to benefit all members of society and for our success to be predicated on a foundation of honesty, integrity, and fairness. Over three decades, Jingtian & Gongcheng has demonstrated a commitment to corporate social responsibility through our actions. Our path to future growth remains aligned with our higher mission of contributing to society, striving for excellence in our field, and cultivating our culture and service based on high standards of professionalism. We believe in strengthening corporate citizenship through our work and advancing social welfare initiatives, where we are able to help those less fortunate, including those affected by natural disasters. While our focus has been on giving back to the communities where we work, our initiatives have also been recognized and commended by the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China, the All China Lawyers Association and local authorities.

Providing Legal Aid – As one of China's eight elite “Red Circle” law firms, we have leveraged the full scope of our firm’s resources and expertise to provide free legal services to economically disadvantaged communities and other special cases, especially individuals and communities in remote locations and poverty-stricken areas. Our team of lawyers have conducted site visits, field research, and provided legal services to improve local conditions in accordance with local regulations. This is emblematic of our culture, which we strive to instill in all of our lawyers, combining learning with practice as we carve a path for the future of our firm.

Supporting Poverty Alleviation – Jingtian & Gongcheng’s Shanghai office is a key enterprise in the city’s Xuhui District. We regularly support the Party Central Committee's mission of "targeted poverty alleviation" and have co-sponsored the "Supporting Poverty Alleviation and Relaying Love" initiative with likeminded enterprises in Xuhui. We have donated supplies to impoverished towns and villages in numerous provinces and municipalities including Yunnan Province, and supported poverty alleviation efforts through targeted initiatives which we have implemented. In doing so, we aim to support the Party’s objective of eradicating poverty and building a more prosperous society.

Talent Development – In 2010, Jingtian & Gongcheng established the "Excellent Practice Scholarship" at Peking University. As part of the "Peking University Law School - Jingtian & Gongcheng Legal Talent Training Program," the scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in social welfare and social responsibility initiatives. Our firm developed a strategic partnership with China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) to cultivate high-potential legal talent. We also sponsored the CUPL Quasi-Lawyer Competition, and offered internships to outstanding students. In addition, we sponsored Tsinghua University's International Arbitration and Dispute Settlement Program and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot - Beijing Pre-Moot. We worked with East China University of Political Science and Law and other universities to build an internship program. We believe that these students will live up to the firm’s expectations, become leaders in their respective fields, and will make significant contributions to promoting the rule of law and the advancement of the legal sector in China.

Supporting Lawyers in Western China – According to the Plan for Supporting Practicing Lawyers in Western China released by the Ministry of Justice, as well as requests from the western region’s legal sector, Jingtian & Gongcheng issued a joint initiative with nine other law firms in launching the "Training Program for Lawyers in Western China". Our firm plans to prioritize and invest in the balanced development of the legal industries in the Eastern and Western regions, provide legal aid where it is most needed, and support the development of the Western region through demonstrated action. As a law firm dedicated to social responsibility, we have integrated public welfare and social service as part of our vision and mission, and we strive to create greater stakeholder value for our employees, stakeholders, and the general public.

Engaging in Charity Initiatives – In addition to increasing public knowledge of the law, poverty alleviation, education and the advancement of the legal industry, Jingtian & Gongcheng closely monitors the social development of local communities. Since the founding of our firm almost three decades ago, we have initiated or continually invested in approximately 100 charity and public welfare programs, and have contributed back to society in a multitude of ways. During the initial COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in 2020, Jingtian & Gongcheng raised nearly CNY 1.5 million to fund support and purchase medical supplies, which we then promptly delivered to the front line to help combat and contain the epidemic. We closely monitored the epidemic and worked together with all sectors of society to overcome the challenges that had arisen. Several of our partners have continually provided pro bono legal consulting services to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Global Compact and other international organizations, as well as legal aid and logistical support to organizations and individuals including non-profit organizations and visually-impaired orphans.
To date, the direct beneficiaries of the public welfare projects we have participated in have surpassed 10,000 people across the country. From underage inmates who have made a wrong decision to elite students at top universities, from poverty-stricken families in remote areas to legal alliances in underdeveloped Western locations, Jingtian & Gongcheng is expanding our efforts to support corporate social responsibility and the development of philanthropic initiatives. We maintain the same goal while continually innovate different formats to maximize our social impact.
