As a public interest program developed by the Beijing Law Assistance Foundation, the Western Lawyers Training Program is jointly-sponsored by ten law firms including Jingtian & Gongcheng. The program covers eleven provinces and autonomous regions, including Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Shanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang. A group of fifty lawyers travel to Beijing for each session of training, which lasts one month and the program continues for five consecutive years. The ten law firms pay for the transportation, training and accommodation expenses, and assume responsibility for the training of five lawyers per firm. The total donation amounts to RMB 4 million.
The first session of the program was held between June and July in 2018. Five lawyers and legal assistance public lawyers from Shanxi, Gansu, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia and Yunnan came to Jingtian & Gongcheng for the training and communication. During the first month, the western lawyers gained a deeper perspective of working conditions within the legal profession in the nation’s capital, as well as Jingtian & Gongcheng’s rich cultural history. Jingtian & Gongcheng’s lawyers also deepened their understanding of legal practices and broader business environment in the west. All the participants voiced their appreciation of the program and leverage their learning, networking, and commitment to the profession going forward.
Social responsibility is embedded into Jingtian & Gongcheng’s core values. Our firm retains a strong sense of mission to participate in public interest programs and contributing to the further development of social services. Through the Western Lawyers Training Program, Jingtian & Gongcheng aspires to continue building a bridge between China and the West and to contribute to a more balanced development of the legal sector.
