Jingtian & Gongcheng (Chengdu) and Sichuan Tiantian Law Firm formed the Tongxin Lawyers Group, Ruoergai sub-division to participate in and provide support for a four-day Tibet legal aid event. The group embarked from Chengdu on September 8, 2015 [confirm year] and headed for Ruoergai County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province for the scheduled event. Diao Hong, Jingtian & Gongcheng partner, served as Deputy Head of the sub-division.
During the event, the first activity involved sub-division first held a youth-focused legal education session at Ruoergai Middle School. Ren Zhe, one of our firm’s more youthful lawyers, connected with the students and delivered an insightful lecture on the Minors’ Protection Law, Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Law and Criminal Law.
Following the lecture, Diao Hong, participated in a local media interview, noting "Our lawyers have an obligation to promote and advance the development of these types of legal aid events that benefit the public interest. Tongxin Lawyers Service Group aims to support and participate in similar legal aid events in the future to strengthen relationships and clearer communication with the relevant government agencies within this county, and perform legal services that benefit the local community."
The group trekked on to Gerdi Temple in Namu and Xiangduo Village in Re'er Township to engage in further research and community-building activities. During the afternoon of September 10th, the group held a symposium with the Bureau of Justice and other government bodies in Ruoergai County. They discussed the current legal challenges facing the government and the conflict of current law in settling disputes in traditional ethnic areas. The lawyers successfully reached a consensus on the content, forms, methodologies and priorities of the legal sector. Both law firms have committed to provide internships, promotions and training opportunities for law workers in Ruoergai County and to provide legal aid for individual cases.
This event represents the first set of concrete actions that Jingtian & Gongcheng (Chengdu) and Sichuan Tiantian Law Firm have voluntarily committed to serve ethnic, poverty-stricken areas. All members of the Tongxin Lawyers Group, Ruoergai sub-division will continue to participate in social practice and public interest activities to demonstrate the values and experience of both firms and to contribute back to the local community.
