Paul Lee is a partner of the firm’s Beijing office. He earned his bachelor of economics in Nankai University and the juris master in Peking University. At the same time, he is a member of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals (“INSOL International”) and the Beijing Committee of Urban Land Institute (“ULI”). His practice focuses mainly on structured finance, securitization, cross border M&A and Real Estates.
Paul advised a number of foreign banks (Merrill Lynch, East Asia, Macquarie), Private Equity funds, commercial trusts (CITIC, Great Wall, Beijing, Huaneng), insurance AMC (Taikang, Hengda, and Qianhai), financial leasing companies (CDB, Hebei, Qinghui), and Real Estate developers (Shuion, Wanda) on dozens of equity investment, financing or ABS projects in real estate, infrastructure, health and medical institutions sectors.
Currently, Paul represents an increasing number of Chinese companies that as part of the "One Belt One Road" strategy are making direct investments in foreign countries in sectors like wind energy, hydropower, sea ports, aircraft, and luxury yacht industry etc. The investors include Three Gorges, China Power, COMAC, Sinovel, Sundiro, Geo Jade and other public listed companies or government-controlled enterprises.
Paul has published tens of professional papers on blockchain, structured financing, securitization and bankruptcy on mainstream media and core journals like Caixin.com, China Bond, China Forex, China Weekly and the Economic Observer etc. He is currently the columnist for Caixin.com.
In November 2017, Paul published his first book on US securitizations, “Carving Cash Flow: from Securitization to Project Financing” (CITIC Publishing Group, Nov 2017).
Represented Taikang Assets Management Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as “Taikang Assets”) in equity investment projects in rehabilitation hospitals, specialized hospitals and doctor groups.
Represented Sundiro Holdings Co Ltd, a listed company, in acquiring and withdrawing the equity of Italian St. Laurenzo Company (the world's second luxury yacht manufacturer), acquiring Hong Kong Simpson yacht group (first yacht sales group In Asia Pacific), etc.
Provided services to Real Estate Companies in M&A, including Hong Kong Ruian Construction, Yintai Group, PingAn Trust, Macquarie Real Estate, Emerald Group, Fengshang Investment, Colony Capital, WTC, etc.
Provided special services to a number of foreign banks (Merrill Lynch, East Asia, Macquarie) in project financing in Real estate business.
Provided services to Oakes Real Estate and other real estate companies in asset securitization in all phases.
Provided services to financial leasing companies such as Hebei gold leasing and Shanxi gold leasing in leasing assets securitization projects in all phases.
Provided services to China's Three Gorges in investing Russian hydropower in all phases.
Provided special services to Power China on a port project in Georgia through the form of PPP.
Provided special services to Sinovel Wind Group Co., Ltd in international wind power investment, whose business covering the United States, Canada, Sweden, Romania, Spain, South Africa, India, Thailand and other countries.
Assisted Taikang Assets, Evergrande Life, trust companies and real estate companies in the issuance or investment of bond insurance plans, insurance funds and trust products in real estate and infrastructure, etc.
